First meeting of the new EU Ad-Hoc group

The new EU Ad-Hoc group on Forest based industry (FBI) had its first meeting
The first meeting of the Ad-Hoc group on ForestBased Industry took place on May 30th.
13 participants from various advocacy organisations and member countries participated in the meeting.During the meeting the schedule and meeting formal were reviewed.
All participants had to present their cases in the area of ​​future opportunities in the European forestry.
On behalf of the UEF, our representative, Bjorn Karlsson, argued that we must ensure that there are enough educated foresters to secure the sustainable forest management. He stressed that we must invest in research and development as well. He underlined that this is needed because otherwise we will find it difficult to compete with countries that can produce raw material in a quick and inexpensive manner.
Next meeting will take place in 10th of July 2012.
