UEF attended the UNECE / FAO Forest Communicators Network meeting 30th May in Málaga - Espaňa

Thomas Baschny, UEF Secretary, attended this FCN-meeting on 30^st of May 2017, in Andalucia in Màlaga.

 

Were present 24 participants from Austria, Switzerland, Belgium, Germany, Canada, United Kingdom, Poland, Slovakia, Spain, Finland, Czech Republic and the European Commission.

The highlights of this annual meeting in Spain are the following:

 

Ø  Report about the Mediterranean Forest Communicators ‘Network (100 members – 16 countries); this 5^th Mediterranean Forest Week Agadir, March 2017 was a great success!

 

Ø  Austria: Campaign “We make our forests climate fit” - “The use of wood is good for the climate” (www.klimafitter-wald.at; www.klimarettung.at); 11 M Euro per Year.

 

Ø  The case of wildland fire risk in the Mediterranean region; (“Wildfire” – activities with kids / schools, movies…)

 

Ø  IUFRO – 125 Years Anniversary (Freiburg/Germany 18 – 22 Sept. 2017) www.iufro2017.com; (FP- and FCN-Communication Session are accepted!)

IUFRO was established in 1892 and groups 15.000 scientists, 650 Member Organizations and 120 Countries;

 

Ø  XXV IUFRO World Congress 2019 (29.09. – 05.10.2019 Curitiba, Parana / Brazil)

 

Ø  PEFC – Spain: Slogan “A world in which people manage forests sustainably”

Ø  UN Strategic Plan on Forests (UNff Secretariat): UN Strategic Plan for Forests 2017 – 30 (6 global forest goals and 26 targets) in progress!

 

Ø  70^th Anniversary FAO and UNECE (founded in May 1947 in Marienbad – Czech Rep.)

A big event is foreseen in Maianske Lazne (Marienbad) / Czech Rep. from 05^th to 07^th of September 2017.

 

Ø  4^th European Forest Week – 09^th to 13^th of October 2017 in Warsaw – Poland
